INSPIRE INTERNSHIP SCIENCE CAMP 2018

About Program

One of the components of "Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent for Science (SEATS)" is INSPIRE Internship in which annually about 50,000 students of top 1% performers in Class X board examinations and pursuing science at higher Secondary level are being given an exposure with leaders in science in the Summer/Winter camps to experience the joy of innovations. These Science Camps essentially nourish the curiosity of children in science; help them to think out of the box and attract the students at an early age of 16-17 years (i.e. in XI standard) to enroll in science subjects.


Instructions for participants

  • This is 5 days free of cost residential science camp.
  • Free lodging and boarding will be provided to the students in college hostel. Accommodation will be provided on a shared basis only.
  • Breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea and snacks will be provided during the 5 days program. No fees will be collected from students and teachers.
  • Students must bring their clothes, and bed sheets. You are responsible for the safety of your belongings.
  • Students are invited to participate in cultural activities and write up competition on various topics. The winners shall be given attractive prizes on the last day of the program.
  • Certificates will be given to all the participating students on the last day of the program.
  • Students can bring their cell phones and cameras (at their own risk) and can use as per requirement only on permission.
  • There will be a help desk which will be active for 24 × 7 during the program. Participants may contact the help desk for any requirements including medical facilities.
  • All students are required to bring their 3 colored passport size photograph and photocopy of 10thclass mark sheet.
  • You must carry the INSPIRE ID card at all times while in campus. If you lose your card, report it to any of the organizers or volunteers immediately.

Boarding & Lodging

  • All the selected students will be provided travel assistance through the shortest route by bus or train (sleeper class) and local hospitality (free lodging and boarding in the entire duration of the camp).
  • Separate hostels for boys and girls are available at UTU Campus.

How to apply ?

Interested eligible students should fill up the application form (available at website). The completed application with one passport size photo and an attested copy of the Class X mark sheet should be submitted to the respective Principal/Head of the Institute. The Principal or Head of the Institute shall verify, endorse the student application form and send all applications to the Coordinator on or before 30th Aug 2018. The selected students will be intimated on 2nd Sep 2018.

Eligibility

  • Students of Class XI who have secured more than 86.4% in Gujarat State Board or 95% in ICSE or A1 grade in CBSE in the 10th Board exam are eligible to participate.
  • The student should have not attended a similar internship camp elsewhere earlier.

Organization of the camp

This program is a 5-days residential camp. The maximum strength of the camp is 150 students. The camp will be addressed by 10-11 eminent scientists from premier research institutes of Gujarat, India.The morning sessions are devoted to interactions with the mentors who share their experiences of scientific pursuits, how they stumbled upon questions of interests, what motivated them to stay on, an introduction to their areas of work, the unexplored horizons of their research areas, etc. The afternoon sessions are devoted to hands-on experiences where students perform simple guided experiments in microbiology, biotechnology, physics, and chemistry. In the evening sessions, the students will be engaged in discussions based on the guided experiments they performed. Further, students will also participate in discussions on scientific reasoning, and identifying scientific solutions to global issues.
