• The Farmers' Meet and Seminar on 'Zero Budget Farming'

  The Farmers' Meet and Seminar on 'Zero Budget Farming' was jointly organized by C. G. Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology, Uka Tarsadia University, Bardoli and Department of Horticulture, Surat on 02/06/2018 at SRIMCA hall, Maliba Campus, Bardoli. More than 200 progressive farmers of Surat district participated in the seminar.

  The seminar was inaugurated at 10:30 am. The Chief Guest and the Subject Speaker ShriBhisma Desai, based in USA and veteran farmer who has been advocating Zero Budget Farming, Dr. D. R. Shah, Provost, UTU, Shri Bhagubhai Patel, President, BPKM, Dr. R. Krishnamurthy, Director, CGBIBT, Shri Dinesh Padaliya, DDH, Surat, Shri Rathod, Incharge KUK, Mahuva were present on the dais.

  Dr. R. Krishnamurthy welcomed the audience. Shri Bhagubhai Patel, a farmer himself, addressed the farmers and appealed to the farmers that they have to adapt to new technologies from time to time. Dr. D. R. Shah expressed his concern for the farming community and assured his help in whatever manner required. Shri Dinesh Padaliya introduced the speaker and felicitated the dignitaries.

  The seminar began at 11:30 am. Shri Bhisma Desai is a firm believer in Zero Budget Farming proposed by Padma shriSubhashPalekar of Maharashtra. He began his talk with the principle of natural farming and why is it necessary in the present context. He explained the ill effects of modern intensive farming in a farmer?s style which any ordinary farmer would understand and agree. It was not a mere lecture giving. The farmers were curious to know the merits and demerits of the Zero Budget Farming concept. The speaker advised the interested farmers to experiment in a small plot and gradually extend the average. This system is going to benefit in the long run and is the only way to save the diversity and the environment.

  The program ended at 6 pm with felicitation of the speaker and vote of thanks by Shri Dinesh Padaliya.

  C G Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology participated in a short film making competition titled 'Swachchh Sankalp Se Swachchh Siddhi' under Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation during 16th August to 8th September 2017. The theme of the film was ?My contribution toward making India clean?. The short film was uploaded on You-tube which depicted the cleanliness drive practiced at CGBIBT by utilizing organic waste such as paper and food material generated in considerable amounts in vermiculture and vermincomposting. The film was documented by seven students (Kartik Solanki, Maisuriya Shivani, Gamit .....) under the guidance of Prof. Rajashekhar Ingalhalli, Dr Meonis Pithawala and Ms Avani Pandya.

• Biotechnopreneur Camp

  The 'Biotechnopreneur Camp' sponsored by Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM), Gandhinagar, was conducted on 23rd March 2016 at C G Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology, co - ordinated by Dr. Anoop Markande. About 120 students participated in the camp. Prof Dr. R. Krishnamurthy, welcomed the guest speakers and the audience. Mr Javed Shaikh, explained about the business opportunities to biotechnologists and encouraged the students to take up entrepreneurial activity which can create job rather than seeking it. Ms Shweta Sharma, discussed the government policies and incentives for entrepreneurship in biotechnology. Ms Sharma explained about Savli Biotech Park near Vadodara and its role in creating biotech start-ups. Dr. R G Patil, gave an account of utilization of banana pseudo stem for fibre production and their marketing under the theme 'My Story' session experience of the biotechnopreneural journey.

  
• Celebrated "Mahila Krishi Divas"
  • Empowering women in Agriculture - Transfer of Plant Tissue Culture Technology to Rural Women

  As directed by our Chief Minister Shrimati Anandiben Patel the state government has announced to celebrate Women's Empowerment Fortnight from August 1 and August 15.

  As a part of this celebration our Uka Tarsadia University women cell has organized different events for empowering women and girl students.

  One of the activity "MAHILA KRISHI DIVAS" was organized in C.G.Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology on Saturday August 8, 2015. In that I, Nilofer Shaikh and my team members have demonstrated plant tissue culture technologies and other innovative methods for Banana and Sugarcane farming to rural women. 24 women have participated in this program.

  Session included:

  • Introductory lecture with power point presentation of "State - wise Production and Productivity of Banana in India" & "Large scale production of Disease free and Quality Banana and sugarcane plants through Tissue Culture Technique".
  • Demonstration of Plant Tissue Culture Technology
  • Visit to Centre for Plant Tissue Culture.
