The Farmers' Meet and Seminar on 'Zero Budget Farming' was jointly organized by C. G. Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology, Uka Tarsadia University, Bardoli and Department of Horticulture, Surat on 02/06/2018 at SRIMCA hall, Maliba Campus, Bardoli. More than 200 progressive farmers of Surat district participated in the seminar.
The seminar was inaugurated at 10:30 am. The Chief Guest and the Subject Speaker ShriBhisma Desai, based in USA and veteran farmer who has been advocating Zero Budget Farming, Dr. D. R. Shah, Provost, UTU, Shri Bhagubhai Patel, President, BPKM, Dr. R. Krishnamurthy, Director, CGBIBT, Shri Dinesh Padaliya, DDH, Surat, Shri Rathod, Incharge KUK, Mahuva were present on the dais.
Dr. R. Krishnamurthy welcomed the audience. Shri Bhagubhai Patel, a farmer himself, addressed the farmers and appealed to the farmers that they have to adapt to new technologies from time to time. Dr. D. R. Shah expressed his concern for the farming community and assured his help in whatever manner required. Shri Dinesh Padaliya introduced the speaker and felicitated the dignitaries.
The seminar began at 11:30 am. Shri Bhisma Desai is a firm believer in Zero Budget Farming proposed by Padma shriSubhashPalekar of Maharashtra. He began his talk with the principle of natural farming and why is it necessary in the present context. He explained the ill effects of modern intensive farming in a farmer?s style which any ordinary farmer would understand and agree. It was not a mere lecture giving. The farmers were curious to know the merits and demerits of the Zero Budget Farming concept. The speaker advised the interested farmers to experiment in a small plot and gradually extend the average. This system is going to benefit in the long run and is the only way to save the diversity and the environment.
The program ended at 6 pm with felicitation of the speaker and vote of thanks by Shri Dinesh Padaliya.
