Date of Sanction: March 2012

CGBIBT at Maliba Campus got approval from National Horticulture Mission (NHM), Government of India through Gujarat State Horticulture Mission for developing Laboratory and quality tissue culture planting materials of Banana and other horticultural crops. The layout of Laboratory building is made as per the guidelines of Dept. of Biotechnology New Delhi. The Project is lead by Prof. Dr. R. Krishnamurthy along with his research team from C. G. Bhakata Institute of Biotechnology, Maliba campus, Uka Tarsadia University.The NHM has sanctioned amount of Rs. 50 Lakhs (plus additional 15 lacs promised) to the project.

The institute under the scheme of this project aim to produce quality planting material of Banana and supply the same to farmers at subsidized rate along with necessary farmer's training. The institute is also planning to initiate cultivation of tissue cultured medicinal plants. CGBIBT is shortly submitting the proposal to DBT for the approval of the laboratory in producing tissue cultured plants.
