CGBIBT : At a Glance

Origin of Biotechnology can be traced back to prehistoric times. Man began employing micro-organisms as early as 5000 B.C. However, Biotechnology got its boost in 1950's with the discovery of DNA and is now considered a multi disciplinary branch and encompasses several disciplines of basic sciences and engineering.In addition, biotechnology is considered as a tool in a larger perspective of technological options, to be applied where it is needed and where it offers the best available options for solving specific problems and contributes in sustainable development of the society.

There has been a steady increase during the last two decades in the establishment of companies developing biotechnological products in Gujarat and therefore the manpower requirement by these companies is on the rise. At the same time in 1990s, due to limited number of colleges, students from Gujarat used to go to nearby Maharashtra and Karnataka states to study Biotechnology course. To cater to the increasing demand of manpower and to retain the students from going elsewhere, Bardoli Pradesh KelavaniMandal (BPKM) came forward to start the Biotechnology program in Maliba Campus in the rural background of Bardoli Taluka of South Gujarat. With the generous financial support of philanthropic NRI Shri N.G Bhakta of Mahuva, C.G. Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology (CGBIBT)was established on 1st August 2005 with affiliation to Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat.

With a humble beginning of just 60 students in 2005 and after being part of UkaTarsadia University in 2011, CGBIBT has now created a name for itself and has become a sought after destination for students seeking admission in Biotechnology and Microbiology programs. At present, the strength of CGBIBT has crossed more than thousand.The steady growth has become possible due to the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. R. Krishnmurthy, Director and the commitment of teaching staff from diverse background.

CGBIBT has modern teachingfacilities which give the students great learning experience. The laboratories are well equipped with modern instruments and equipments that impart hands on practical experience to the students.CGBIBT has national and international collaborations with industries and universities for exchange of knowledge and research.

The alumni of CGBIBT are well spread all over and pursuing higher studies in reputed Indian and foreign Universities. Many of them are entrepreneurs and a large number are working for private and government sectors.

CGBIBT is aiming to be the centre of excellence in the rural part of South Gujarat with the strong support of the management.
